General Program Information:

Our cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship is built to produce well-rounded, clinically excellent physicians who upon graduation should be prepared to care for the entire spectrum of patients undergoing cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures. Research opportunities are also available, however our clear mission is to train superb practicing physicians who are skilled in echocardiography. Extensive training in perioperative echocardiography is a core component for the fellowship experience. We were the first academic anesthesiology program in Texas to use real-time 3D TEE, and we incorporate this imaging modality into our daily workflow. With two fellows per year, call is split equitably. The cases are varied and cover the full spectrum of cardiac surgery, and the volume allows for excellent exposure and learning. The work atmosphere is collegial and friendly, and easily customized to the individual needs of each fellow. Our program is not only ACGME accredited, but recently received an ACGME commendation and remains in good standing. Our fellows consistently receive multiple good job offers from Texas and around the country. Located in the medium-sized city of Temple, Texas, we are a major medical center positioned close to Austin and Dallas/Fort Worth. It's a great place to train, and it's a safe, warm, and friendly place to live.
