ANNUAL DISCLOSURE AND CONFLICT MANAGEMENT SCA MEETING PLANNING COMMITTEES Annual Comprehensive Review & Update of Perioperative Echo Full description of Standards for Commercial Support to ensure the independence of CME activities from commercial interests can be found at the website for the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (www.accme.org). The SCA fully endorses the ACCME Standards, and encourages all participants in CME activities to read them. As an SCA member who is in a position to control the content of a CME activity, either by participating in the creation of a program (selection of program committee, topic, moderator, and/or speaker selection) or by delivering the program as a presenter, you must fully disclose any relevant financial relationships with commercial interests. Relevant relationships are those of any amount within the last 12 months which create a conflict of interest. If you have financial relationships with a commercial interest and your participation in the CME activity presents a conflict, you must propose a management plan. This plan could include (a) withdrawal from participation in any part of the CME activity where a conflict exists; (b) deletion of any reference to the commercial interest in your presentation; or (c) reference to the commercial interest only while citing evidence-based reviews. In order for the program chair to insure that conflicts are adequately managed, it is mandatory that disclosure be made, and a management plan be in place before the meeting. Failure to disclose or to adequately manage conflict of interest will disqualify you from presentation at SCA educational activities. Yours truly, Solomon Aronson, MD
