President’s Message

Our Volunteer Leaders are Hard at Work for You

Portrait of Dr. Scott Reeves

Over the past several months, our society leaders have been busy working with staff to make 2015 an incredible year. Our program directors have been hard at work finalizing their respective programs. Our annual Echo Week will be celebrating its 18th consecutive year as the most comprehensive review and update of perioperative echocardiography available. If you have not been or it has been a while, commit now to joining us March 23–27 at the Loews Atlanta Hotel.

The 37th Annual Meeting and Workshops will be held at the brand new Marriott Marquis Washington, DC, hotel April 11–15. It will be a joint SCA/ICCVA Global Celebration of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia. Noted speakers from all over our planet will be giving us their unique perspectives on pathophysiology we all manage. It will be a large event, so please plan now to attend. Meeting registration and hotel reservation information will be available soon. Also plan now to attend the gala. It will be a special once-in-a-lifetime event.

The nominating committee has been hard at work reviewing your nominations to our board of directors and continuing education and nominating committees. The society will be releasing the Web-based ballots soon. Please set aside a few minutes to vote.

The bylaws committee has submitted a few changes to our bylaws to bring us into the digital age. The primary changes allow you, the membership, an opportunity to vote for all our candidates, including eventually our secretary-treasurer, electronically. In addition, if a bylaw change needs to be made at any time, the bylaw committee is requesting that it be approved via an electronic ballot of voting members. These are necessary changes to make our society more responsive to all our members. I hope you all will vote to approve the changes at our business meeting in April.

As we enter into fall, rest assured that your society is constantly being attended to by our many volunteer leaders and staff.
