NewsletterCharles W. Hogue, Jr. lends support to SCA with his new position at Anesthesia & Analgesia
The Society of Cardiovascular Anesthes-iologists is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles W. (Chuck) Hogue, Jr. to the position of Assistant Editor of the Cardiovascular Anesthesia Section of Anesthesia & Analgesia. In that capacity, Dr. Hogue will be representing the SCA and will be reporting to the Associate Editor-in-Chief for that section, Kenneth J. Tuman, who also represents the SCA. This appointment supports the recently renewed agreement between SCA and the International Anesthesia Research Society, which sustains Anesthesia & Analgesia as the SCA's official journal through 2007. The creation of this new position reflects an increasing volume of manuscripts received by Anesthesia & Analgesia that primarily address issues relevant to cardiovascular anesthesia. Hogue has also recently been appointed to the Editorial Board of Anesthesia & Analgesia. Fittingly, Chuck has been very active in the SCA, and he currently serves on the Scientific Program Committee. Hogue received his undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University and his medical degree from The University of Illinois College of Medicine. He served an internship in Internal Medicine at the Washington University School of Medicine, and his residency in anesthesiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. Since 1990 he has served on the faculty in the Department of Anesthesiology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, where he currently is an Associate Professor and Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology. Chuck has a broad variety of clinical and research interests, as reflected in his extensive list of prestigious lectures and peer-reviewed publications. Prominent among these interests are blood substitutes, cardiac arrhythmias and pacing, central nervous system injury and protection, and Cox-2 inhibitors. In his new position, Dr. Hogue will be reviewing over 100 manuscripts each year, and he will be working with Dr. Tuman to expand the Cardiovascular Anesthesiology section of Anesthesia & Analgesia and to implement some changes to that section that may include an increase in review articles and the development of a pro-con section. Either he or Dr. Tuman will routinely chair a panel session at the SCA Annual Meeting reflecting emerging scientific issues of interest to cardiovascular anesthesiologists. Table of Contents:
