How do I search the database?

You generally have 2 options: using a “free text” search strategy or using “drop down” menus. The table below lists all the search fields with a brief description of each. We’ve annotated a series of actual screenshots to illustrate either of the processes here.

Free Text Search Options

Drop Down Menu Search Options

Title
Enter any word that may be included in the title. All rounds that contain that word will be displayed no matter where the word appears in the title.

Author(s)
Enter the author’s last name. You can search for several different authors at once by separating each name with a comma. The search will find all of the authors' names that begins with the characters you enter. For example, if you enter the characters johns, the search will look for johns and Johnson.

Keyword(s)
If you know the keyword, you can enter it and quickly search the database. All primary and secondary fields will be searched. You can search for several keywords at once by separating each word with a comma.

Title
This title field list all the echo rounds titles in alpha order that are currently in the database. If a particular title is not listed, the data is currently not in the database.

Publication Date (Month / Year)
The month and year fields are populated with data from the database. If a particular month or year is not listed, the data is currently not in the database.

Volume / Issue
The volume and issue fields are populated with data from the database. If a particular volume or issue is not listed, the data is currently not in the database.

Patient Age / Gender
The patient age and gender fields are populated with data from the database. All rounds are coded with an age and gender.

Primary / Secondary Keywords
The primary and secondary keyword fields are based in part on the NBE’s taxonomy scheme for the TEE echo certification exam.

What happens if my video doesn’t play?

We’ve made every attempt to ensure that the video clips will play on both PC and MAC computers. We have also converted all clips to Flash format which should play on any computer (although resolution may be lower). However, if your computer is more than a few years old or you have old operating system software you may have problems. We are continuing to work on providing the video in multiple formats as time and resources permit. We’re sorry but technical support is unavailable.
