Abstracts will be accepted in the following categories:



 Fellow and Resident Travel Grants

 

The Research Committee will select the top five eligible abstracts to receive an SCA Resident / Fellow Travel Grant. Each recipient will be recognized during the SCA Annual Meeting, in the SCA Newsletter, and will receive a $1,000 travel grant to allow attendance at the SCA Annual Meeting.  The single best abstract will be announced during the Annual Meeting. Priority will be given to studies that elucidate the pathophysiology of cardiac, thoracic or vascular disease or explore novel therapeutic possibilities based on mechanisms of disease.

When submitting your abstract, select the checkbox to indicate your interest and verify your eligibility.  SCA staff will notify you of the status of your application in February 2018.

Application Requirements:

  • Submitting abstract author must:
    • Be enrolled in, or have completed in the previous 12 months prior to the SCA Annual Meeting, an Anesthesiology Residency or Fellowship Cardiothoracic training program
    • Be an SCA member
    • Have completed a majority of the research
  • Joint first author abstracts are not eligible for consideration
  • The research must be an original, scientifically sound, hypothesis-driven exploration
  • The abstract must be unpublished in manuscript form
    • The abstract may be simultaneously submitted for publication, but it must be under publication embargo (online or print)  until after the SCA Annual Meeting
  • An SCA member must be a senior collaborator and must assume responsibility for the research.
  • The senior collaborator must submit a letter stating the following:
    • Applicant is eligible for the award
    • Resident or Fellow's status in and location of the training program
    • Describe the Resident or Fellow’s contributions to the research
    • Applicant’s NIH Biosketch.
    • SCA sponsoring member's role in the project
    • SCA sponsoring member's NIH Biosketch
